I just got summoned for jury duty. Do y'all think it would be OK to show up kilted?

If kilts are your everyday wear, then sure, go ahead. don't do it just for jury duty, though.

It depends entirely on the judge & the context.

What level of court is this? City, federal, what? You should have some written instructions beforehand. Usually that includes hints about dress and decorum. I would recommend asking beforehand.

Tell us more, but your best info probably comes from the courthouse directly. Best wishes.

They probably will not notice your kilts, since you'll be sitting. But I for one would be interested in knowing how it comes out. I have no doubt you will wear your kilts.

When I did a weeks jury service a few years back (before I got into kilts)there didn't seem to be any emphasis on dress code. One of us was a rock group player and turned up in the most casual of casual gear. A kilt shouldn't be a problem. If the accused has a problem with it, he/she might ask for a replacement juror. They can pick and choose who has the job of finding them guilty or not, though I don't know if wearing a kilt is reasonable grounds for an objection.

I had jury duty two weeks ago, and, there were 2 guys who looked ready to go work construction as soon as they got outta there, and two kids dressed in the "emo" style. Rule of thumb is to dress nice, as, after all, you are dealing (potentially) with the law, and it is a serious matter. So, dress business-like; should you decide to wear a kilt, thats fine, but wear something nice with it. At the very least, you'll start some conversations in the jury pool while waiting to see if you're selected.

I did Jury Duty some months back. I doubt kilts would have been an issue, although in Australian court rooms, the Jury is often sent out of the room during the trial, so a kilt would certainly be seen. I didn't have any at the time, but if I were called up again, I would be strongly tempted.

I think the wearing of a kilt may have some bearing on whether or not you get selected but I don't think it would be viewed as "inappropriate".

I served as a juror in Miami for a two day trial involving a plaintiff's demand for money damages arising from a very minor automobile mishap. Jury selection took all of a half hour and the only kilt related question I got was from the defense attorney who asked what tartan it was.
