Oooh, I like it.
"Ooh, I like it" she said, reaching to touch my kilt. There I was walking into a restaurant/jazz club, in the rather up tight town of Orinda, when the woman leaving the establishment was overcome by the power of the kilt She was a little embarrassed when she realized that she had actually put her hand on my garment, but I just laughed.
Moments earlier a store clerk had said "Nice kilt!" (I was wearing a solid grey casual kilt, with sporran, scrunched down hose and boots.) I thanked him and he asked if it was a "traditional Scottish kilt." I looked at him quizzically, and he said "you know, worn in the traditional manner" thus providing the opening to use the old "Nothings worn, its all in perfectly good working order" line, which got a big laugh from him and his coworkers.
That wasn't the end of it all, though. At the club, where we'd gone to hear a cabaret singer, an older woman stopped to tug at the outer edge of the apron, and the doubled back to ask the question ("socks and boots" this time.) She later asked if I was Scottish, but I explained only from the waist down.
The funniest moment was when the singer, Holly Penfield, who grew up in this town, but lives in London, came over on a break, and likewise asked what was under there. (According to her bio she's married to a Scotsman.) She complimented my wife and I, and said approvingly that we were "alternative," which I took to mean artsy/non-conforming, this from a women dressed a la Sally Bowles from Cabaret and wielding a riding crop.
All-in-all, a really fun night.

Four positives in one outing is a pretty good night, jake.
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)
Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.
7/5 of the world's population have a difficult time with fractions.
