On today's BBC Radio 2 'Jeremy Vine Programme', one of the topics was this 'new' legislation regarding sporrans. However, the only protected animal mentioned was the European Otter and, as a sporran-maker said in interview, "That animal's fur/pelt/skin has not been used by Scottish sporran-makers for over 50 years!" He and Hamish Husband, who was also interviewed, spoke more about the harm being done to traditional Scottish fabrics, materials and craftsmanship by cheap imports. It was agreed that the Scottish Executive should concentrate on controlling those imports rather than wasting time on pointless legislation that really cannot be enforced!
