You'll find a number of titles concerning the Highland regiments of the British Army who served in North America during the Wars for Empire and the Revolution. Stuart Reid's 18th Century Highlanders, published by Osprey, is a good starting point.

The short answer is: Soldiers (in highland regiments), yes. Civilians, no. This issue was discussed at length in a couple of recent threads....

I know through written accounts from my family that my ancesters traded "many colored plaids " with the indians for foodstuffs and such but no direct evidence that they wore kilts in early 1700's Virginia near what is now the New River Valley. CR66

Thanks!
Thanks to all for the info. and links to past threads..... very interesting. Seems to me there is a bit of eviedence to support sporatic kilt wearing in the civilian population of early america and plenlty to to support it in a Military (British Army) context.
Thanks Again!!!
