That's nothing mkmound;
being Australian, a full Kangaroo Sporran is very difficult to handle. Apart from it trying to box with everyone I meet, the constant hopping & jumping has already raised my voice a couple of octaves.... And everytime I open it, a baby 'roo leaps out, playing havoc at the Supermaket checkout line. (I'm LOVING this thread! so intellectually stimulating!).

Hmmm . . . I could see how the 'roo sporran could be difficult . . . I hope your voice returns to normal . . . I'd hate for an XMarker to be mistaken for a Sheila (aside from RowdyRed, Cloves, and a few others, of course) . . . and I could certainly understand the consternation of the supermarket manager with his displays lying in shambles.
Have you considered replacing the 'roo sporran with one from a porcupine skin (full mask or not)? Not nearly as active, plus with the additional advantage during your grocery shopping that, if they run out of bags for your veggies and fruits, you could simply skewer them on the sporran.

I think that would be a bad idea, especially if the sporran is startled. It sits way to close to the boys to even be considered. It would make a good covering for a targe though.

Aw Guys, your concern is touchingly heartwarming. Maybe a full mask Customs Officer Sporran would solve this problem once and for all?

So I'm wonderin', Ozman1944...
DownUnder, are those who illegally bag a 'roo called "pouchers?"
(as opposed to "poachers")
.

Droll, very droll. (groan!)
Actually Retro, I reckon such a person bagging a 'Roo would be charged as a "Double Poucher", A pouch within a pouch one might say.......

Well if nothing else this topic is certainly a good conversation starter. Since the BBC first got hold of the story I am asked at least once a day by total strangers whether I've got a licence for my sporran. I currently own five sporrans, two of which were made by Nichol of Bankfoot and since they have now ceased trading I can't ask them what animal materials they comprise. Safest bet is probably the cheap rabbit fur sporran I bought on e-bay - rabbits are abundant and far from being an endangered species !

The story must have finally reached the mainstream media...my 87 year old CNN watching dad called me up the other day and said, "...it was on the news...you're going to have to have a license for that bag that you wear with your Scottish skirt." (I've given up on the skirt/kilt thing...and this is a man who's constantly telling stories about the time he spent in England during WW II.) I tried to explain that I only have three "bags" and they're made from cow, bunny rabbit and cordura and that the licensing was in the UK and was intended to cover "exotic" species.
Anyway, if my dad got the new, it must be pretty well disseminated by now!
