My first and second have been Stillwater Economy Kilts.
I think that for my next one I would like to try a true 'eight yard wool'.
I am also interested in trying to make my own.

Please excuse me for my ignorance, but what is a 'tank' kilt?

My first kilt was a cunniham(sp?) that was made by Blooming Leather now called Kilt Krossings.

My first kilt was an off-the-peg viscose/acetate in Campbell of Argyll that I purchased in Edinburgh on my honeymoon.

"Tank" is a bit of internal X-marks language, coined, I believe, by Jimmy Carbomb some years back. It refers to a handsewn, eight yard heavyweight wool (i.e., 16 oz) kilt.
