    Wide Calf Hose

Attention all you with tree trunk legs! I've been able to get my hands on a special run of Lochcarron kilt hose made with extra wide calfs. These will fit a shoe size 11 to 13, and I have four colors on hand -- cream, black, navy blue and bottle green.

The calves are wider than standard, but not super wide. When I stretch the top of the hose out and measure across the opening, it measures 8", which would give you about a 16" circumference. When I do the same to a pair of standard Lochcarron hose, I get a 7" measurement (14" circumference). Now, my calves are 14" and standard hose fit me fine and don't feel tight at all. So I'm thinking these wide calf hose will fit a bit larger than 16" calf, but since I don't have 16" calves to try them on, I can only judge by the standard!

In any case, we are selling these, while they last, at the SAME COST as our standard hose, which is $27.95 per pair.

Okay I measured my calf at 18" The first pair of hose I bought were so tight I though they would cut off my legs! My only kilt is a black watch, so what color should I buy? Will you have them at the Grandfather Mtn games?

If the first pair of hose you bought were standard hose, and you could still get them on (though they are tight, as you say), then you should have no problem getting these on as they are made at least 2" bigger in the calf.

To be honest, all of those colors would go great with Black Watch.

Good news for those of us with calves any mother cow would be proud of. I'll go order some right now.

Sorry, I forgot that question -- no, we don't vend at Grandfather. The museum will have an info tent, though.

I am a small person with well-deveoloped calves, but I had never had a problem getting socks on, until I ordered some from Kiltstore. They are too narrow for comfort, but wearable.

I wish it were easier to find shaped hose (wider at the top than at the ankle) at a reasonable price.
And I insist on reasonable, since I find any socks wear out quickly round the toes while the legs are still in perfect condition. They need replacing (or darning) too often for me to pay high prices.

    Martin,

You might want to consider the Lewis kilt hose we carry. They are priced higher than standard, but are specially reenforced at the toe and heel (where socks tend to wear out), so they will be longer lasting. Plus they are very comfy to boot!
