    Piping @ scattering ceremony

Here's a photo I took of my son, MadBagpiper, as he was preparing to play for an ash-scattering ceremony here in Montreat, NC last week. The tartan is the Montreat Scottish Society tartan.

You have to look closely to see that he's standing across a stream from the ceremony. The distance, combined with the sound of the mountain stream, added a wonderful quality to the music.

    Wow, looks surreal, mystical.

This always sounds wrong but it looks like an effect that Photoshop tries to reproduce.

The faint sound of pipes in the distance is one of the most poignant and appropriate things for a funeral I have ever heard. Far better in that circumstance than for the piper to be right there in the ceremony, IMHO. As Archangel said, that is an excellent picture.

Very poignant; somehow this looks just like it could have taken place in a remnant of the ancient Caledonian forest.

I agree. The piper playing and walking slowly out of the fog during the early morning memorial service for golfer Payne Stewart after he was killed in a plane crash was the most haunting thing I've ever seen. Does anyone know where I might find a video of the service.

That is just a wonderful picture. I am sure that the pipes added to the ceremony.

That is absolutely stunning. This is one of the main things I want to do as a piper.

Piping someone home with dignity and respect. That picture captures the serenity one hopes to find at such a ceremony. Bravo!
