When I make kilts for myself I make them 25 inches long. When that kilts' wasitband rides right around my navel, the selvedge is about mid-knee. 24 inches is OK, as well, just a little bit higher.

At the Ben Lomond Games last year I bought a Scottish National "cheapo" kilt, just because the price was right and I've always loved the Scottish National tartan. This kilt is 22.5 inches long. When I wear it at navel level, the selvedge is about an inch and a half above my knee. That's short. It's not miniskirt short, it' s not crawling up my thigh (thank God) but it's shorter than I normally like it..

I used to be a little bit paranoid about it, now I don't worry about it. That kilt has turned into my "Games" kilt, 'cause I don't mind beating it up and getting it sweaty and dirty.
