I have followed this thread with great interest and having seen the variety of posts I now feel it is my turn to chime in.

In order to most effectively deal with the C.O.F. start by becoming a customer. He is more genial when dealing with fabric and cash.

Next, drop by the shop for some good natured bantering and abuse (he gives, you receive) and order something else. If the mood strikes, the C.O.F. may even take you on a guided tour of his fair city.

Finally, if the C.O.F. is hosting some kind of function, say a camp of some kind, lend a hand. This will really throw him off guard.

You will know you have been successful when upon your departure, the C.O.F. gives you a hug and says "Thanks."

By the way, in THIS post C.O.F. stands for Cherished Old Friend.

I have found that when it comes to the C.O.F, if you leave a cup or 10 of coffee out and provide a space for him to partake in his pipe, that you should be able to escape unscathed

Just to chime in with my two cents (I don't know how much that converts to in Canadian), one of the things that drew me to this forum and helped me decide to join is that there ARE so many kiltmakers here, and that you are more than willing to offer up honest advice and answer questions without "slamming" another's wares, and, as this thread shows, you guys are actually friends. That says a lot. That also says to me, as a potential customer (hopefully to each one of you at some point) that you are MUCH more interested in product quality and customer service than you are the "bottom line". Now, I think we all know that at the end of the day, the bottom line pays the bills, so getting more customers is necessary, but you guys have seemed to manage that without slitting someone else's throat. And you pay for me to be able to post this, so I say "Carry On!"

Na, it's not that we can't tell what's funny, it's that by the time your my age you've heard that joke so many times it's not funny any more.

A guy walks into a bar. The first thing he notices is that everyone at the bar has a duck on his head.
So he says to the bartender, "Oh no, not another one of those funny bars. Isn't there anywhere left where a guy can just sit and enjoy his drink?"

    Thumbs up

Being a veteran of the Naval Air Service, I have to chime in here. For an aviator, military type one each, Steve is well civilized.

A six month cruise after a six week work up on the carrier of your choice, preferably working in the hangar bay or flight deck, should illuminate my point for those not seeing the light.

I also have to sign on with the Damn the Toes party. I enjoy the posts. I find it refreshing when I talk to somebody trying to sell something and they aren't too busy kissing up to keep it real. Kilt On. Please.

That definately puts it into perspective. As a veteran of 8 of those evolutions that about sums it up, especially when you hear those magic words "Gentlemen we have been extended"!
