What colour of tie should I wear.

I'll be going to my sisters wedding this weekend kilted. I'll be wearing my Modern Grant kilt, black shirt and hose, brogue shoes and my dress sporran of which the fur is light gray. Something similar to this picture, except black hose and my dress sporran.

My question is, what colour of tie should I wear? I was thinking either silver because it is neutral and would go with the shirt or green, something that matches the green in the kilt.

Another thing. My younger brother will also be his Modern Grant kilt, but he hasn't had the time and money to add many accessories to his wardrobe. He'll be wearing my semi-dress sporran(seen above) and probably a light blue shirt(one that he has that matches the light blue stripe in the tartan). What colour of tie do you think would work for him. He has the option of wearing either his cream hose or my green hose (as seen in the picture above).

What do you guys think? I have until Friday to find a tie.

i think a silver/gray tie would look very sharp with black hose on you.

Should your brother introduce another color though? I'm not sure I'd wear blue with that outfit. While you're out picking up a tie for yourself, pick him up a black shirt and silver tie as well. Then lend him the green socks.

Black is a tough color. I'd go with a silver or gray tie - looks good against the shirt and catches the color of the sporran.

A blue shirt for your brother will look good with that kilt. As you mentioned, it matches one of the colors on the tartan. Get him a green tie and have him wear the green hose.

I would think a silver or grey tie would work with the outfit you describe. Your brother, wearing the blue shirt, I think will be fine, as you say it matches a stripe in the kilt, he might want to go for a black, or silver or grey tie as well, with the cream or off white hose, I would say silver, if he goes for the green then I would wear the black tie, or a green tie if one is available.

I hope your sister's wedding is a wonderful affair.

R.L. I suggest a green tie for you, if it is a good match to the tartan of that kilt it will serve you well for many years.

If your brother is going to try to a light blue shirt to tie into the thin light blue stripe of the kilt I would not wear the green hose, have him wear the off white. As for his tie, when you find the right green tie for yourself buy a second one for him.

    Enjoy your outing.

    Cheers

I think a light blue tie to match the thin line in your tartan would look great. If you can not find that the gray or silver would look really good as well.

How many are kilted? It might be weeks before anyone realizes that you were not wearing a tie.

I hate ties, and if I can get out of it, I will. But for my sister, yeah, if that's what she wanted.

With that shirt, my FIRST impulse is gray silk tie (and gray flashes too).
You could also do green or red/orange (which ever is the RIGHT color), BUT these need to be fairly close in tone to the kilt (the red needs to be REALLY close, but green can be a bit more "off"). I'd also get flashes in the same color as the tie. The eye can REALLY tell differences in red and is pretty unforgiving to the tone difference, while it "gives" more on green before it "looks bad."

The significance of the tie and flash match is to give an upper and lower "tie." A black "dress" shirt and black hose will look GREAT with matching "flashes" of the same color. The color would also be good if it tied into the rest of the outfit coloring as well. The gray would tie into the sporran (at least) and red or green would tie into the kilt.

I might even try something similar myself now . . .
    Thanks for the idea inspiration!!

(Now, back to sewing my 16 oz Wallace kilt.)

The black shirt is going to make a statement with a red tie.
