I almost had to use a sword last night.

So we got home from kilt night at about 11:30 or so. The wife and I had settled down to our computers to get through with all the e-mails and stuff that always seems to pile up whenever we go out. Along about midnight there is a loud crash from the bedroom. I got up and headed into the bedroom, grabbing the nearest thing I could that would act as a defensive weapon. Lo and behold, it just happened to be my mini katana. (And my mother thought my sword collection would never be useful.) Got into the room and discovered that someone had thrown not one, but three rocks at our bedroom patio door. Luckily, it was a double pane door and only the outer pane broke. They were gone by the time I got the door open, because Helena had screamed when it happened.

So, thank Goddess, I didn't actually have to use it. But I do think I would have liked to see the reaction on the crook's face when a large man in a kilt brandished a sword at him.

Imagine the look had you just doffed your kilt! Thankfully no one was hurt, unfortunately a new patio door could have meant a new kilt instead. Hope they catch the bugger.

sorry to hear that they broke your glass.. but glad that no one got in and you didn't have to put that blade to use..

swords are great for home defense... my wife insists on keeping a few around the house for just that purpose.. the last place we lived wasn't a great area and crime was on the rise.. now though, I feel that they'll be sitting around more for looks.. my neighbors already stay out of my yard.. think it might be the sight of me cutting grass kilted?? or maybe me sitting on my front porch cleaning my shotgun

We're a reenactor family. Myself, and my two sons, each have our broadswords hanging on pegs in our three bedrooms. With those, and the noisy dogs, we're in good shape for home defense (leaving aside the Remington 870 in the closet!)....

Somewhere on another thread, I told of moving into my first bought house and the neighbours were having a drunk-up, peeing on the trees and throwing beer bottles onto the road. My usually peaceful buddy wanted to go at it right now, but I wanted a better move in experience.

In the morning, as they wander into their backyard, hungover, beer in hand, there's me. I'm in black gi pants, shirtless, trimming the hedges, bushes and small trees with my Katana. I know the impression I made. I knew they were just standing there, gobsmacked. Eventually, I faced them and one of them offered me a beer. I said no thanks and went back to cutting.

Never had any hint of trouble from them again.

I keep a bokken by each door now, but I have had to use that Katana on a rottweiller that walked in the back door one day. I had to push the tip against its chest, I was really afraid that it would react and I would stab it. It eventually backed up and out.

Anyway, glad everything worked out well. Did you do the police thing, probably should as you were probably getting scoped.

Getting into a rock throwing contest with a guy in a kilt isnt a smart idea. You never know if he's a highland athlete or not!

Even knowing you, I would be scarred of that sight!

    Glad it wasn't any worse.

We did call the police and filed a report. Just after I posted this today, we talked to the office of the apartment complex. They are replacing the door, and looking into why the security patrol hasn't been closing the gate or patrolling. I was astounded to learn we were supposed to have a security patrol, as I have not seen a security guard here at all in the six months we've lived at this complex. If I have my way, someone's about to get the sack.

lol whe I lived in Aurora ( Kenton and......just south of Colfax where all the car dealerships are) my apartment supposedly had a patrol .....didnt stop sombody from stealing a tire and rim from my old GEO METRO!!!!

I really supprised the manager when I asked him to help me get the jack under the car( they didnt even put a brick under it ) and he said " how?"
I handed him the jack and proceeded to lift the car up by my self and told him "slide it under"

all he said to me re: the theft....well its just a courtesy patrol and they only come by once a night....I told him I was glad my lease was up in two months

sad part was I replaced both for $35 tire $20 from pep boys, and a new rim from the junk yard $15.

sorry bout the rant ...it just made me think back to that and pissed me off once again...they could have gotten one for $35....but instead they steal food from my newborns( at the time) mouth......

    ok I'm done
