Not sure what we'll do this time. If there's a tour we may take it just to see somewhere different.
Was in OSLO last year. LOVED the VIgeland Park and finally got to see Kon Tiki after almost 40yrs of wanting to. Something I studied in school.

Welcome back.
My Grandfather immigrated from Newcastle Upon Tyne. His Father and Grandfather were from a town named Allenhead or Allendale, somewhere in that area. They were all coal miners.

Hi Mudd,
Allenhead and Allendale are very close to each other so it could be either. South West of a small Northumberland town called Hexham. Lots of Roman history around those parts including the Roman Wall which was built right across the country to keep the Scots OUT!!! No such luck these days lol.
There used to be mining, but no more. The whole industry has disappeared completely in recent years.

Al,
They're running and driving... Got ~327,000 miles on one, 336,000 on another, then 241,000 on my father's daily driver, and 216,000 on his old car.

Welcome back Al - your posts have been missed. As you've probably guessed, X-marks has expanded massively. Once upon a time I read every post but that's impossible now.

Oh, I know the feeling, Al. I do spend time at the PC - but at the expense of 'life' (and sleep)!!!
Good to hear that Jack is OK. And that Nigel is still strutting his stuff so to speak. Also good to see so many familiar faces still posting. I wonder if Chris from Toronto is still around? There's a name I haven't seen yet.
One thing which will interest you. (And hopefully others which is why I mention it here). A very close friend of mine has been doing my family tree. Not doing so well on the Scottish front (not that that matters) but found out my paternal great grandfather and subsequently a long line after that herald from in and around Brighton and Lewes.
AND, more excitedly, we have got back to 1081 which in turn means I have managed to trace a line forwards to the current monarchy. I am 18th cousin of Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward. Pity my dad isn't around any more to tell him he is 17th cousin of HRH! (Along with a million others, but at least I can prove it).
How exciting! I am so envious. Knowing virtually nothing of my grandparents and having no blood relatives alive, I have long given up on trying to work on a family tree. My parents seldom spoke about their roots - I am not even sure where my mother was born!! I should love to know more and was given pointers here some time ago, but alas no time to make a start. By the way, I AM bowing as I write!
I'm now discovering villains in the family which only adds to my street cred.
We will talk some more
Al
Do keep us posted if you find you are related to Jack the Ripper - when are the Police going to catch him, by the way?!!

Did you recall the username was al' Sporrano and not Al' Sporrano? (lower case a)
What is your preference on usernames? I can set up a temporary password on the al' Sporrano account to get you back in there. If you prefer to use kiltedbandit, I'll dump off the old account.
Drop me a PM to let me know.
