While I have not dealt directly with Strathmore, my kiltmaker Kathy Lare has. She ordered my 16oz Royal Air Force and my 13 oz Leatherneck through them. The material seems well woven and looks great to me. Kathy had no known complaints working with the material. Hope that helps some. I'm a happy camper.

But how will this cloth stand up to wear?

I had a kilt made with cloth from Strathmore (label in kilt) and found it looked fine. But in a short time the kiltpin had worn holes in the apron, and, now that I have kilts from other mills, I realize how soft and wooly the Strathmore cloth is -- not the tight smooth finish of Lochcarron or H o Edgar worsted.

    Perhaps I was just unlucky.

The Strathmore site indicates that the US Air Force tartan (not the Royal Air Force) is only available in T7 (11 oz) weight. And they don't stock anything in 16 oz (see http://www.strathmorewoollen.co.uk/m...s.php?pageid=2), although they will custom weave it.
