I have a bright pink shirt I wear in memory of my sister (it was her favorite colour) and all the comments I have gotten about it have been to the effect of "it takes a real man to wear a hot pink shirt...".
Another tartan with that effect is one of the Barclay tartans

Back to the "Loud MacLeod" .... in 1998 I saw a gent wearing a trench coat in this tartan at the Stone Mt. Highland Games at the clan MacLeod tent. That was a lot of "Loud MacLeod."

The Tartan found inside of the real trenchcoats is known as the Burberry Check Corporate Tartan No. 1239. It is restricted to Burberry Ltd. but in the last 10 or so years it has become very fashionable and can now be seen on just about everything.
In London, New York and LA if a woman did not have at least one item of Burberry Tartan she would be looked on as woefully outdated or worse yet poor.

Thanks for the clarification... I assume I'm either crazy or that Burberry is close to Thomson Camel?

You are a kilt wearing member of X Marks the Scot! I would be most careful in offering any question that starts with " I assume I'm either crazy..."

...because you might not get the the second option!

Lol... I'm constantly reminded (by the wife and coworkers alike) that while I may not be criminally insane, there's definitely a few screws loose.

There's something about the loud MacLeod that fits with the high of being on the edge wearing a kilt...sort of heightens the thrill. When I ordered mine I was afraid I'd gone too far...but when it arrived and I wore it out I loved it from the git go.

Wore it to a local Pow Wow dance this spring and it was tame compared to the dancer's regalia.

Jeez, have some fun...get proud, get loud!

That tee shirt probably helps limit the number of comments.

I think most people who make derogatory comments do so out of ignorance, most of them are not sophisticated enough to take the colours into account. They probably just notice the brightly coloured kilts more. I think you give them too much credit.

Indeed. And we don't have the benefit of the red stripe to dull it down a bit.

A picture of one of our regional commissioners from our website (www.clanbarclay.org) shall serve as evidence of the brightness of our dress tartan.

We are easy to spot, and generally only confused for Clan McLeod.

Somehow the Barclay tartan seems more threateningly loud as a pair of trews than as a kilt!

I know this gentleman; he's out here in the Midwest. I've seen him at the Buffalo games north of Springfield.
