Aye. It does look more dramatic in trews form. Still, I won't own a kilt in Dress Barclay, as I can't afford the wings and stinger that one needs to successfully wear the tartan.

Actually I've not had the pleasure of meeting him. As for the Barclay Dress tartan, the best for men's wear, be it kilts or trews, is the HoE "old and rare" muted colors. I have a length of it ready to be made into a kilt for my dad. If you come to the AGM, you'll get to see it.
