As a migraine sufferer myself I can emphasize with you. When it happens to me, and it has been happening more often, I go take a hot shower and that seems to help a little, over the counter medications can sometimes be useless and other times work, as others have said make sure you eat regularly and stay hydrated. Whiskey is a definite no no when it comes to migraines, it is not the great panacea that some tout it to be.
