I've seen the Grant worn with a light blue tie to match the azure stripe and it looks splendid. (Of course, for your brother wearing a light blue shirt, he'd need something different. What about red?)

Thanks again for all the advice. I think I'll probably try to find a silver/gray tie, my second choice I think will be green, but the azure is tempting. I'll be wearing my matching tartan flashes since I think it's too short of notice to get flashes to match my tie.
I think matching the red of the kilt in a tie will be too difficult. We're going to the mall today to find something. I'll get my brother to bring either a flash or the scrap of material he had left over when his kilt was made.

Ive got an idea, wear the kilt to the mall, with the shirt, hose etc. and then you will be able to match things up perfectly.

I'm already at work and the mall is just 5 minutes away. Home is 30 minutes away. I could try to convince my brother to wear his (he lives 5 min. from the mall), but I doubt he'll do it since he doesn't have many of the accessories.
I'm sure we'll manage with the scrap of tartan. Besides, him and I will be the only ones kilted; nobody will notice if we do something "wrong."

Great pic there , looks a bit like me , ... funny that eh cuz
All of the above are great ideas .
There is also the option of buying Grant ties , if possible in your area .
The Red Modern in the small sett goes well with any colour shirt , as does the crested tie .
You could take a leaf out of our late Chiefs book , and wear a cheerful bright coloured tie , such as the one that he is wearing in one of the b&w photos in his book .
It has the look of the sort that wee kiddies give grand-dad for Christmas . , and he wears it well .
I wear a light blue shirt with my red modern more often than not , when I wear a tie , and it goes grand .
cheers ,
QM

I'm thinking if they're not too expensive(and the wife lets me ) I'll try to buy a couple of the colours suggested and then wear what strikes me that day.
