    Sgian Hog? and Cane

    Here is my latest project:

The Cane handle and the Sgian handle are of Warthog tusk. The shank of the cane is hazel that I ordered from the UK. The collar and the tip ferrule are African Blackwood with nickel silver spacers. The Sgian sheath is cowhide.

    Thanks for looking.

    Breacan,

Those are both very cool pieces. I passed up on a warthog tusk cane last January at the SCI (Safari Club International) Conference and have regretted it ever since. But to have a matched pair is very cool indeed.

    Cheers and well done,

I just LIKE it! Very nice work. Now, I realize that the sgian dubh is mostly a ceremonial piece of kit but I take it that you are a "redneck in a skirt"* and I have to ask: how does that tusk feel in the hand? How easy is it to work the blade?

Gorgeous, both of them! How does the sgian feel in the hand?

Held in this way it is very comfortable. Don't expect to use it much, but it is useable and sharp.

As a fellow Texan, then you know you don't have to ask if it feels comfortable in the hand. You should be asking, "How Big is It?" and "How many out of towners will see it, and say 'only in Texas'?"
