Saltire Needs a castle

Now that summer at last appears to have arrived I gave the saltire an airing today. Realistically I'm never likely to own a big house with a flagpole. Its a shame that this saltire languishes in a cupboard unseen. It needs to be up a high pole unfurling in the breeze. PM me if you can use it.

If you just want to "get rid of it," this "American" (DON'T call ME a "Yank!") would be glad to give it a home with frequent flying (like almost every day).

Alex, are you selling it, or would you be willing to donate the flag to our St. Andrew's Society? We could use one for our colour party that participates in parades, etc. We have one that is not the correct shade of blue that I would like to replace.

He said it was given to him on the street, so it might not be the highest quality. I haven't seen anything but the pict, but it is obviously screen printed, not appliqued/sewn-of-multiple-fabrics.

They make angled stand-offs (stanchions?)that allows you to hang a flag darn near anywhere.
I use one on the front of my house with a 4 foot wood pole and a bungee to anchor the bottom.

Now my father-in-law went the full kit with a 30 foot flag pole, lights and landscaping.

Sounds like the Scottish Executive will be needing it if they go ahead with their plan to fly the saltire instead of that "butcher's apron". I would hang onto it for a while even just to wear to the rugby.

Here in the UK it's relatively rare to see flag flying in private homes, we tend to leave that to public and official buildings. And even then PC can get in the way.

An amazing contrast to my visits to the USA and Canada where flags fly proudly outside so many homes.

I wish more over here would fly flags.

On flags,

I gave a number and 3 flag poles, one in front and 2 hanging off my back deck. I am a bit of a flag addict and an amateur "vexiologist" (one who studies flags), because flags are the symbols people use to identify themselves and display in prominence. The color-bearers were the ones that PUT DOWN their guns (swords, axes, or hammers in times past) and hold a POLE as they charged into battle. Flags are SO much more than the sum of their parts. How they came into being, what they mean (specific intended symbolism), and how they developed/evolved/changed over time is VERY interesting to me, as well as the art of construction, design, and simple beauty.
In short, a flag is a scrap of cloth that one would DIE for, not for the cloth itself, but for what it embodies.
THAT just FACINATES me!
