If the acrylic is crimped - run through heated rollers with a milled profile, you can get another 25 percent of thickness for the weight of fibre.
Although there is only a small percentage of acrylic in the mix it will affect the loftiness of the cloth, making it feel thicker than the equivalent weight, or lighter than the equivalent thickness of an all wool material.
Thats an interesting way to pleat, alternately to the stripe - presumably for frugality, but it makes a good effect.
Plus - you wear it well, Hamish - and the 'natural' white is far nicer than a 'pure' white which I think looks cheaper somehow, more man made.

Hamish, you're accumulating kilts faster than the Moderators can keep up in your title block.

Fear not, dear friend. When you reach my age it will have got much worse!! I have 'senior moments' thesedays with far greater frequency than is good for me although, with me, it is usually people's names that catch me out! That is SO embarrassing!
Anyway Don, take care

Wow! Now I've got to add another tartan not to the "nice to have" list but to the "must have" list.
That is one very nice tartan. Contratulations on number 80, Ham.
And kiltos to Union Kilts.

80 is quite a milestone Hamish, it must be very special, I wonder how many kilts you'll have when you do reach 80 years!
This is a nice kilt, as always, you wear it well.
Next time my wife complains about me buying another kilt I will just say "but Hamish has 80 kilts dear!"

Congratulations on number 80! A very beautiful tartan, and as always your color combinations with the kilt set the Gold Standard.

Not really Steve. Some inevitably are worn more frequently than others, but that is due to different governing factors - what the weather is like, where I am going, what I am doing, my mood - that sort of thing. OK, some of the kilts are not suited to everyday wear (The Snakeskin, The Rainbow, etc.), but I try not to have favourites.
