Flown thru most major UK airports and never had any problems. The current state of affairs means that Sporran, Belt and kilt pin would need to be removed. If you need to get double checked it will be with a hand scanner.
Some airports get touchy re the kilt pin especially if it has a long pin. My advice put it in your case or don't wear it.
Dirk's are of course a no no
The sporran/bag thing is a red herring nothing to worry about.
enjoy your trip

My wife has an artificial knee, plus her femur is now more metal than bone. We asked a nurse or physician's assistant at the office on a follow-up visit, and next trip they had the card waiting for her.
Her scars are pretty impressive, though; usually one look and a wave of the wand gets her through.
In my case it's a bit tricky, the surgeon is in Miami and I am in Sweden.
But I suppose I could get some sort of note from the swedish orthos. After all, I have all the american Xray pics and stuff.

I just returned yesterday from Minneapolis to Tucson. I don't take anything but kilts on my trips so I can say from experience that buckles will set off the detectors about 50% of the time. It's no problem if you don't mind getting wanded. I've even had them go off when I have had no metal whatsoever on my person.
Funny thing is, the guy that was running the detector said "you're going to have to take that off". I said o.k. but I have to warn you......
