    Kilts in Spain...

Do somebody know about a kilt association or something like that in Spain, more specifically in Madrid?...
I have seen just one guy kilted at an irish tavern on St. Patrick's day once but not anymore.
I am not sure if this thread is correctly posted here...but any information is welcome!

Parts of Northern Spain have very high Celtic history in them. A good friend grew up in one town where they still have annual Celtic festivals featuring bagpipes, etc.

Besides people the world over like wearing kilts. It was likely just some guy that wanted to wear a kilt and did.

A number of my Scottish friends from work have retired to Spain. I don't know the area and won't until next week but they're in a new retirement community. There is quite a number of Scots there. I think it's near where they filmed the westerns.
Don't know if that helps, my Spanish friend is in Spain right now. When he gets back next week, I can ask him.

The Galicians have been reviving their celticity, since the end of the Franco regime has given more fredom of expression and unleashed a certain regionalism in different parts of Spain. Bagpipes are well known there, but I don't think they have gone so far as to adopt the kilt.

On one of the forums there was a man from the Valencia region who wore a kilt, but he never mntioned belong to any club. I seem to remember he visited some other kilt-wearers in Scotland, so maybe someone here will be able to identify him.

There are so many Brits on the coast that kilts do appear on the streets from time to time, new year's eve, for example. Otherwise, the kilt is just a "skirt" in Spain (not that that has ever stopped me from wearing mine there!)

The last time I was in Spain and wore my utilikilt, I got some odd looks.

Oddly enough, the most vocal response was from Scots in Barcelona on the Rambles. Their had been some sort of soccer . . . er football . . . match that was going on there. They were amused and rather cheerful about it.

Most of the rest of the time I got more odd looks from my size and long hair. And the fact that it was April and I was wearing a tanktop.
