UK vs AK question
I am thinking of a soild color modern style kilt, I have been looking at both UK and AK online, any thoughts on what makes one better or worse from the other. Quality materials so on.
Thanks

the UK has a narrow apron in front.. the AK has a standard apron... to me I like the narrow apron, it falls into place instantly.. I also like the cargo pockets on the sides. there are others that don't like the narrow apron or pockets, it comes down to what you want in a kilt. I have 2 UK's and think the quality is very good. I have had my first UK for 3+ years and wear a kilt pretty much daily.. it still looks great.

Which Utilikilt style are you considering? Makes a big difference.
I have all the Utilikilt styles and AmeriKilt too.
Probably the best solution is to buy one of each (you're gonna do this anyway sooner or later) then decide which one you like best and buy more of what you like/need.

I have two of each, and Like the sporran on the AK and the pockets on the UK , the only drawback is the pleats on Ak tend to curl badly, especially should one sit down.

I've got one of each and my next modern kilt is definitely going to be from Freedom Kilts.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of my AK. I bought it second hand. The material is very soft but it wrinkles incredibly easily and the pleats curl. It just isn't as comfortable as my UK standard.

My abbreviated view
AK - Good knock-around kilts for casual wear (yardwork, hiking,...) but can look a little skirty. Bottom edge is cut and serged (sp.) so it can have a lot of loose threads. The sporran is a nice option but I'm not a fan of the cloth sporran look. Lowest price of the 3. Use waist and length measurement. Quick delivery. Mike is great to work with!
UK - Heavier fabric than the AK, slash pockets good, hemmed bottom hedge, several styles to choose from, long lead time for delivery, a good bit more expensive depending on style. Use waist and length measurement.
FK - A ton of fabric options, several styles to choose from, about the same price as a UK and you get a tailor made kilt using Waist, Hips and Length so it fits like a glove, many options, excellent quality and a forum supporter.
Check out FK's Indy kilt as a comparable to the AK if budget is tight. Otherwise, skip the UK and go for the FK, you won't regret it.
