    it has begun......

tonight... my wife started making my kilt... it's going to be part x-kilt, part utilikilt, part her own idea on how to do things... for a material... she chose a chocolate brown faux leather material.. I was going to make a x-kilt by following the directions by Alan h... but she informed me that just like I don't let her mess with my grill.. I don't get to mess with her sewing machine... not to mention she has 35+ years of sewing experience...I'll just have to do what I do best...that's BBQ and she'll take care of the kilt making

yes... pictures will follow after she completes it

I just took a peek at the progress my better half is making on the kilt... yeah... she's MUCH better at sewing than I am... I can't wait til it's done.. I can bet that my kilt wearing friends around here are going to be wanting one... too bad though... it's a one off (ok... she might make another for our oldest son but that's it!)... her thoughts on this "no more leather kilts" (faux or real)..

that still leaves plenty of regular fabrics right?? <insert evil grin>

I will admit that the notion of a faux suede kilt has crossed my mind.

ok... I've been taking pics as my wife has been working... here's a few...

ya have to start somewhere... why not by laying it all out on the hardwood floor...

after marking how much is needed.. you have to have it inspected by the cat..

then start marking off the pleats...

here's a close up shot after completing one of the outer pleats...

more pics will follow after she gets all the outer pleats done...

we've also though about doing a couple kilts out of suede cloth... from past experience (my wife made me a killer cloak out of it), suede cloth is MUCH easier to work with than the faux leather.. at least suede cloth will hold a crease...

I guess the good side of the faux leather not holding a crease... no need to worry about wrinkles
