caubeen
The London Irish Rifles has a brief article about the caubeen of the Irish regiments on their web site:

Caubeen question.
Does one traditionally put a badge on the rosette of a caubeen or leave it plain?
Cheers

Following the custom of the Irish regiments of the British Army, a regimental badge is worn on the caubeen:

Civilians certainly could wear a badge as well; I've seen the relatively new "Irish clan badges" available being worn on caubeens.

Todd,
Thanks for the good information (as always). I had seen some of those pictures before but couldn't make out if the badge was on a rossette or if the military caubeens didn't have one.
Hmmm... I have a a nice diced glengarry, a royal blue balmoral, various berets, and a couple of driving caps. Perhaps I need a caubeen to round out my hat collection (somewhere the F-H.C.A.G. is frowning mightily and saying "Not Another Hat!" )
Cheers

Now, you know, to properly accessorize one must have a different hat for each kilt.
If the ladies need different shoes for every outfit, why can't we have different hats.
