    Argyle Jacket????

I could use some advice on purchasing an Argyle Jacket. Can anybody recommend a good source? I live in CA, but my biggest concern (after cost) is my too large belly.

In my internet search I bumped into www.gleniffhighlanderwear.com
They show a wool Argyle Jacket for L140 (so I'm guessing something under $300).

Appreciate any advice, my wife is not interested in adapting a current jacket.

    Cheers,

I'm a big guy too and my arms, belly, shoulders, etc. don't fit the standard size. If I get the jacket large enough for my belly and chest then the arms are six inches too long.

So, trusting my kiltmaker Kathy Lare, I ordered a made to measure grey lovat Argyll Jacket from Lochcarron. She took my measurements at a Highland Games a couple years a go, but by the time I ordered we had my girlfriend remeasure. Jacket came out perfect. $334.00 for a MADE TO MEASURE. Its made by Lochcarron then shipped over from Scotland.

Liked it so well I ordered a green one. Its on its way now.

But, point is, for us large guys with a different shape its worth it for made to measure over off the rack.

Give Kathy a call or an email. www.kathyskilts.com

    Here's mine.

Takes a while of course, but came with staghorn buttons. And, Lochcarron even sent me swatches to pick the material for the second Argyll Jacket from.

Kathy Lare is in Albuquerque, wonderful lady. That's my suggestion for us big guys who don't fit off the rack sizing.

My tailor very kindly describes me as "having a more heroic stature".In other words ,I am too large in all the wrong places. There is nothing worse than having an ill fitting jacket and sadly the only way to go is to get one made for you.A little more expensive, yes, but worth every penny when you consider that you can choose the exact cloth you want and the fact that you can "cut a dash" with a well cut jacket of your choice.

I'm a pretty big guy. I have 3 custom made kilt jackets, 2 off the rack, 1 PC and 2 that I had tailored down from tweed sport coats.

I wear the ones that started life as sport coats more than all the rest. Look for my photos on the discussion about which hat to wear.

The coat in that foto, coast $8 at a thrift shop and I paid a tailor $45 to cut it down as discribed maney places on this board.

Before you spend $300 or more, I suggest that you go that route!
