    Dumfries and Galloway Pictures #1

As promised, here is a selection of pictures of my travels when I stayed at Ferintosh last week. The full set will be uploaded to my photo blog site at www.fotothing.com/cleftref.

St Michael's Kirk, Dumfries, where Robert Burns is buried.

Statue of Jean Armour, his wife that stands opposite the kirk.

Part of the kirkyaird, the Burns mausoleum is the white building.

    His gravestone.

His house which is now a museum.

    Friars Vennel, Dumfries.

    More to come!

    Yes strange isn't it Robertson!

I expect you be saying that about the rest of the series too!

Not to hijack, and please pardon my ignorance, but what is the significance of the use of tables as grave markers in the graveyard?

    Excellent pics!

Don't know but older graves tended to be a lot more ornate than they are now. Cost could be a factor, or regulations have changed and local customs would have an effect also. I find them fascinating places - my favourite is Père Lachaise in Paris, but I liked the kirkyaird in Dumfries too.

I agree, I wanted to take my daughter there on our last trip over but a combination of her age, jet lag and other excursions got in the way. I love seeing your photos of Dumfries. I am going have to talk my brother into coming over with me soon.

Ah, the Master of the Camera continues to show us his work. Great photos, Trefor. You certainly seem to have had more time to explore Dumfries than I have yet managed. Have driven past St. Michael's Kirk several times (en route to and from Caerlaverock Castle mostly), but not had time to stop. Likewise, I have not set foot in the rear garden at The Ferintosh - it's been either too cold or too wet on my visits!

"Master of the camera" - what a kind description Hamish!

But I am just prolific really with some good eggs and some bad eggs but Scotland has the ability to inspire more of the former!

But if you haven't been to St Michael's, then you should certainly make time for it in January - there are routes from Ferintosh that don't involve passing Andersons!

No? Oh, you HAVE to be joking, Trefor. As with Rome, I understood all road lead to Andersons. Come on now, please tell me you ARE joking!
