How do I begin making my own kilt?

There are many on this board, myself included, who started making our own kilts by using instructions from various places on the internet. We (found, stumbled across, and/or migrated to) the best resource for traditional wool kilts, which has been mentioned above, The Art of Kiltmaking. Get comfortable using the book.

The next step is to take a kiltmaking workshop - from Elsie, from Barb, or from another now carrying on the tradition. Many people have been trained over the years, and I'm sure a few are now capable instructors. (See this thread: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=28930 ) The workshops are usually five days long and, during the 40-50 hours of supervised instruction, you make a traditional 8-yd kilt.

It's up to sponsoring organizations to advertise the dates & places of upcoming workshops. Any forum member who gets wind of such an instructional experience should post the particulars on this forum, so keep a lookout for it.

Ah, thank you, I'll keep my eyes open for such a workshop. I'd love to attend something like this.
