Now we need a battle cry... "hand over your wallet" has already been taken by clan Campbell, I believe.
I'll have to remember this the next time I see one of my friends (a Campbell).

In parting a quote from Jane Howard, a US "journalist, writer". Her books included "Families," 1978 and "Margaret Mead: A Life," 1984."
Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one."
I think you are speaking for all of us there, Alaskan Kilted Guy, and I love the quote from Jane Howard.

If you look up the definition of clan at dictionary.com it says in part "a group of people, as a clique, set, society, or party, esp. as united by some common trait, characteristic, or interest: a clan of actors and directors.". If that does not describe this extended social group then nothing does.
Another reason the dandelion is a good choice is that they are very hard to get rid of once established and the make my grandmother used to make a tasty wine out of them.

I'm beginning to see xmarks as a clan. For what is a clan but a group of people who support each other, give each other advice, and rally together to a common cause? There is the xmarks tartan, which is beautiful, and we need someone to design a crest... and draw up a motto.

What a post! Nine pages in a few hours!
I'll bet some Scotsmen in the hills of the south brewed up dandelion wine. How about the dandelion with whatever the Latin for "Ferment Me" is...?
X Marks seems more a Tribe than a clan...in the sense that the Navajos are a Tribe made up of clans. In the old days if any other Indians wandered through Navajo territory they'd get invited to join the tribe and that group would start a new clan. When the Navajos raided into Mexico and captured a Mexican maiden and she bore children they started the Nakai (Mexican clan). Today there are over a hundred Navajo clans but they comprise one tribe....if that makes sense.
Whatever the decision, I have an X Marks hand sewn kilt, an X Marks hand sewn vest, lots of X Marks kilt pins, and two X marks T-shirts so sign me up.
The Indians issue a Certificate of Indian Blood. Maybe we should issue an X Marks Certificate of Kilt Addiction and Clansmanship.

Should I have the good fortune to end up with an Xmarks tartan kilt, I would be proud to explain to any passerby the nature of 'my' clan...and that they too can be sworn in if they have access to a computer, and have all the attributes required of friendly brotherhood. I think it's all refreshingly 21st century, and mixes well the flavour of clan-like support with the anxious times we now live in.
I also think the suggestion of a dandelion emblem should be applauded. To me this plant has several apt qualities:
Its roots can grow very deep, and are not easily removed.
The seed head is almost perfectly round like our world, and help in its future survival and distribution requires just a mouthful of breath to 'spread the word'.
It establishes itself almost everywhere, and if, in times when we're down, we happen across one it reminds us that there is ready support waiting to make things easier - even if only through helpful words or advice.
The bright yellow of the flower is the most cheering colour of the spectrum, but, as a lovable rogue, can have its mischievous ways as well.
If that doesn't sum up the Xmarks 'rabble', then nothing will.

I like the clan notion. Xmarks is the mainstay of my social life, in all actuality. I like the feeling of family, and the fact that I haven't been able to get out of the house very much in the past year doesn't affect my friendships here like it has those offline.
My vote for plant badge is the Dandelion. (One of my favorite plants of all time. No lawn is complete without them, IMNSHO)
For a motto, I definitely like the "Not by blood, but by choice"
For a battle cry, I like:
Kiss my pleats!
