We were standing on the top of the Tuzigoot ruin when it was struck by lightning! It knocked a loaf-of-bread-sized rock off the wall and threw gravel all over us, but fortunately no one was hurt. Having a blue spark about 6" long shoot out of my nose is something I hope to never see again.
Missed the fort but spent a wonderful day in Jerome, and Montezuma's Well was really awesome.
I imagine the rangers had the same expression on their faces as well when you told them that story, eh?
Jerome is a wonderful little town; my grandmother remembers visiting there when she was 13 years old when the mines were still running. We used to eat at a nice little restaurant called The English Kitchen, which is reportedly AZ's oldest restaurant. Did you go to the Gold King Mine out west of town?
Great pic of the grand canyon. Glad the tips helped...well, except for the lightning out the nose part...
