Hamish has nothing to fear, there is no way I could challenge that legend.
Heh, and to perldog, my wife and I actually know a song (not really a song, but some banter on a live album) that features Delaware. The group (Moxy Fruvous) was actually responsible for me meeting her. (Me from BC, her from Ohio, and we met in Toronto at their concert)

As for contemporary hakama, I've not seen any. The closest I have seen is something my father calls 'wrap pants' but they are not pleated. If I can find some links I'll post them shortly.

upon further research, what most people view as 'wrap pants' are not what my father was talking about, I don't think... hmmm... I shall ask my wife (who is descended from japanese samurai stock by way of hawaii) when I get home later tonight.

That's pretty interesting. Please do post if you can find some pictures.
I actually was wearing my extra extra long UK chocolate brown workmans to my parents' annual pig roast this past weekend, and alot of the people there are members of the Buddhist Church. Some of them did comment on how it did have some resemblance to a hakama.
