Her loss.
I wouldn't change, because of the reaction of one person.
There are a variety of possible reasons why your friend gave this reaction.
Ask her about it, if it bothers you.
School is supposed to expand knowledge, social skills, and reveal diverse cultures, traditions, etc.
Lead by example... if you don't make a big deal about it, eventually no one else will either.
Best of luck.

Yeah, I figured that out about 5 minutes after typing that post. I've decided I'm still wearing it to convocation tomorrow, and I'm still going to wear it (and soon to be others!!) around campus.
I did talk to her about it, and she apologized. *shrugs* Oh well...here's to keeping your head up!

First off, let me say you did well in how you handled the situation.
Most people would have let the fatigue get them and blown up.
Second, as an R.A. you're doing something that you should be proud of. You're being a confident individual who your 'charges' will notice. And while you might get some stick, eventually the worthwhile people will respect you for it.
You're doing well, you're a great guy and I think everyone on the board is proud of you.
For what it's worth, when Diane was Conference assistant last summer I was kilted around campus with her during a high school football camp for about 2000 13-16 year old boys.
And only a hand-full of them thought the kilt was cool.

Where do you go to school? I was not far from your neck of the woods last week, working on a commercial for Marshall University, and no one looked at me twice (and not just on campus, but out in the boonies stopping for gas).

Kentucky Christian University, in Grayson, KY. If you were in Huntington, you were only about 45 minutes from my campus.
The girl who made the offense is one of my fellow R.A.'s, and she is from North Carolina.

Yeah, been kilted in Grayson too (though not this trip). My wife's college roommate's parents live there. Ignore her, wear your kilt when you want.

And don't think she's necessarily going to feel the same way about this forever. Sometimes it seems odder when you see a friend kilted for the first time, than a stranger. A certain level of shock is, I have found, to be expected. Lotta people come bouncing right back, I must say.

No true friend would disown someone that's expressing their freedom of choice IMO. Look great to me. Perhaps she's jealous of the attention you're getting...
