You wouldn't think a few inches in drop would be that big a deal until you get a kilt custom made to size and to sit where you feel most comfortable. It's then you realize how an inch or two drop just isn't and will not fit properly and will drive you crazy pulling it up to make it work. My kilts are made at 23" and a kilt of 24" feels too long and I am always pulling it up higher than I want to wear it. Too short and your pulling them down to hit the place on the knee you feel the most comfortable. Pulling it down makes me feel it's going too fall off all the time.
It pay's to have a kilt the size you want it, not just the one size fits all or very few but will do in a pinch.

Of course, by drop we mean that the measurement is from the waist to the hem. Add another 2" to get the total length of the kilt.

I have a few different sizes in utilikilts. I would think that they all sit lower than what a proper kilt length should be, but that is where I am most comfortable. I like having the extra length, and even have one that would almost be considered full length. To me, that length makes it almost like a hakama, which also helps to tie into my ancestry better.
Oh, and I'm not tall either.

I have since come across a black watch tartan kilt on e bay, 36' waist, on sale because it doesn't fit, with a 29.5inch drop!, mind you somewhere on my favourites I had an ad for ex-hire, dress stewart tartan(white), 8 yard, heavy weight kilts, for the princely sum of £99, the thing of particular note being that the bloke modelling one was not a small chap, probably six foot-ish, but the waist was just below his nipples, he was bare chested, and came well past his knees!

			 A Ha!!

Barb T might have solved the question without even being on the same thread She says that a women's dance kilt fastens on the right hip, like a geezer's, so, could that be the solution? Well, almost, but the 29.5inch drop Black Watch was 'made to order' Odd, especially as he's selling it because it duz nae fit! oterwise, I would pitch my tuppence in with Barb's answer
