Waiting for a new kilt
I have had a 5 yard length of double-width tartan laying around for a while.. well, actually two lengths in two different tartans. I bought these to use as great kilts but I find that I don't wear the great kilt as often as I thought I would. So, I contacted these folks to see how much it would cost to have one of these lengths made into an 8 yard tank and they said the total cost would be $200 USD and they would include tartan flashes.
This poses two questions:
1. How long do you think this would take? Is it still about 6 to 8 weeks even though I am supplying all of the tartan (no waiting to weave the tartan)?
2. Where do I buy patience? I find myself full of anticipation when waiting for a kilt to arrive.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to adding this kilt to my collection.. too bad I can't sleep until it arrives

Umm . . . what do they say? I always ask a kiltmaker about how long it's going to take, double that, and put a reminder on my calendar to check on it, then try to forget about it until it's "due."
As for dealing with the anticipatories, concentrate on something else. It can be Celtic or even kilt themed, but look around for a new sporran, or shoes, or hose. Order a sgian dubh blade from Atlanta Cutlery and busy yourself with that.

The only real bad jones anxiety I had was fearing that my black FK might not arrive by labor day and I would have to come up with a stunt double. Jerry stocked some black economy kilts in my size and then the FK arrived before the stunt double became needed.
I feel your pain. We are so used to getting stuff in days that waiting months for anything seems to be a hardship. Hang in there, it will come - eventually.
Off topic - Lou, just noticed your title. Congratulations! I am wondering when the time for my title arrives if they will just write it out, or go with the more family friendly "kilted "
I have only had the one wait, but it was well worth it!

6 - 8 weeks is not a long time in the kilt making business. It is about the norm, some do have to wait longer. To help the jones how about gettting the various accesories? Special kilt pin, sporran, hose and shirt spaced a week apart may help. Or else will drive you crazier. If it helps we all go through it. Another idea would be to cut the wait time for a new kilt by ordering an SWK.

Good ideas! Spending each week looking for an accessory will keep my mind off the time. Thank you
One of the problems is that I live in Seattle, WA. and anyone here caught carrying a knife that has a blade longer than 3 inches will be arrested. So, this is why I don't carry a sgian dubh or dirk. It's actually quite silly since you can get a gun permit and carry a handgun but you can't carry a blade longer than 3 inches. Go figure.

Sounds like an excellent reason for a sgian brew, the handle with a bottle opener instead of a blade. If you search DIY I think there is a thread or two on this. Also Rab has them on his site if you want a gorgeous high end one.
Delaware has some silly laws too so I can relate. Would love to carry a nice sgian around here. Not strictly illegal, but Delaware laws "bend" depending on who and where. I am saving for a Rab Gordon sgian brew myself.
