Arlen, I haven't run into this issue with kilts, but I've sure run into it with other issues. As we East Texas rednecks like to say, "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your family."

You've just got to love them for who they are.

Too bad Arlen, I have come across the same attitude from my younger brother, the only thing I can say to him about it is that I am old enough to dress myself. I do not talk to him about what I wear, even though he owns a clothing store. Recently he has stopped his attack of my wardrobe I think it comes down to the fact the he has accepted that I will dress as I please, I hope your sister does the same, at least you have the support of your father.

Your Gran' was a very wise woman, and I love that 'saying'. I hope you don't mind us borrowing it now and again.

Arlen, I know you are comfortable with the way you dress, no matter what anyone says but to have someone close to you treat you like that is upsetting. Soon you will be joining us this side of the pond and wont have to worry and you may find when you are no longer there that she may miss you and become much nicer, if not you will be too far away to worry.

You know, I gotta agree with what everyone has already said. You can't pick your family. People are dumb. You can't change people's minds.

You know, it's funny. The only member of my family who says anything even remotely negative about my kilt wearing is my brother... and he's got the Campbell clan badge and the Lion Rampant tattooed on his neck!

I just tease him right back about wearing his pants down around his knees... but then again, that's the kind of relationship he and I have.

Let her speak her mind, correct/educate/enlighten her where possible and approprite, and above all else,

KEEP WEARING YOUR KILT WHEN AND WHERE YOU WANT!

She has told me repeatedly in the last two weeks that my denim Union Kilt 'Looks like a skirt’ and that she 'Just doesn't like it.'

Today, however, I walked into the living room wearing my Macdonald Modern kilt when she pipes up with 'You do realise that if it isn't tartan then it isn't a kilt?'


'Well, anyway, that denim one just looks silly. And kilts are all skirts anyway.'


'Well I don't care anyway. I just wanted to make sure you knew you looked silly.'

Well that's her opinion - but the only one that really counts is yours. I'd just ignore her.

Does L pay your wages?. Does L feed you?. If not , her opinion is hers. She has a right to it, but it should not control your life in any way. My sister tried to inflict her opinion on me and all it got her was a cold shoulder. I have not spoken to her in 10 years. When she decides that she was wrong in inflicting her opinion upon me, I will welcome her back with open arms. Opinios are like certain parts of one's anatomy. I'm feeling a lot better, today.
'L' is just... She's my sister and I love her, but she is a very judgmental person and her mind is set on whatever she likes.

Oh well, at least my Dad and my Fiance are very supportive.
