Tough one. I am a long ways from complete - a work in progress if you will. The kilt doesn't hurt though. It has let me know that I can really go my own way.

Comfort and confidence in one's self are good things though.

Why do you suppose the military makes such a big deal about uniforms?

I don't think it's for completeness. The "Complete" man is independent and so exercises his own free will. That is counter to the general military where men are almost always part of a unit. The uniform is simply a tool that the military uses to reduce individuality and independence and to encourage a sense of membership and cohesion with members of his unit.

Since I am no longer in the military, I can be an independent man. That independence is a greater part of my "completeness" than how I dress can ever be.

I'm not sure if the kilt "completes me" but it definitely is way to boost my own confidence. I think anyone who dons the kilt has "it" somewhere inside and just needed that push out the door to recognize it.

Well said. I would agree, the kilt is mealy another manifestation of my personality. It is not the ‘be all’ or ‘end all’. It is just another part of me. And yes, it absolutely takes, and builds also confidence to wear the Kilt.

My daughter say I have a "kilt walk" that she thinks is pretty cool. She says people tend to back off and give us room when we go walking (downtown at 2am).

Confident? H*LL YES!!! I find that I stand straighter, take longer strides and generally feel superior to the poor people wearing slacks.

I second that. A kilt doesn't make me "complete" but it does make me feel more manly and confident in myself.

I don't think complete is the right word for me. I think it more defines me. It shows me to be a person that really does not care what most others think. I wear it for me.
When I do wear it feel like I have been let in on a great secret. The secret is that they are more comfortable and look nicer then pants.
I have to ask why you guys never told me about kilts for the first 50 yrs of my life? I guess I will have to settle with wearing them for the second 50 yrs.

I don't think the kilt defines me, or completes me. I think the things that led me to try out wearing a kilt, and then to continue, are part of the definitional me. Maybe the kilt is like boot camp---it's an exposure to something new, something that you prove you can accomplish and carry off with style?

It's silly to think that a few yards of cloth could change how a man carries himself, but then again it's a silly old world.
