Kilt making is the only sewing where I find my maths and micrometer both come in handy.

Perhaps sewing by hand requires a special form of spacial awareness to be able to avoid placing the point of the needle into skin as well as cloth.

I can hold the folds level and sew a fairly straight line along the waist, inserting the needle entirely blind on the return stab, though after 50 years of sewing I should have got the hang of it.....

Only 25 more tiny pleats to sew into the striped kilt. It is going to look good, though.
