Try a fine or ultra fine scotch brite pad. Use a little bit of sewing machine or gun oil for lubrication and scrub the blade along it's length. That will get the rust off and put a satin finish on the blade. You may see some dark staining or pitting if the rust is very bad but the scotch brite will make it will look better than it did. If you want a shinier finish, use several grits of fine grit wet/dry sand paper and the same oil. Start with, say, 600 grit and work your way up to 1000, 1500, 2000 and so on until you get the finish that you like. The sand paper is available at most auto supply and hardware stores. You can then do a final polish with Metal-Glo or a similar product. Just make sure you don't get oil or sanding slurry on the grip or it could stain. You may want to cover it with tape or something.
