I studied languages in college, including German. Hauke Haien is the main character of the novel Der Schimmelreiter (The White Horse Rider) by Theodor Storm. The story is set in northern Germany, in the area where, much like the Netherlands, much of the land has been reclaimed from the sea by building dikes. Hauke wants to become the dikemaster, the person who oversees construction of the dikes and determines where and how they should be built, but he's poor and has no way to pay for the schooling. He gets a set of books from the old dikemaster, and teaches himself. He eventually achieves his goal, although there's a high cost. I really liked the book and the character and I've been using the name on the Net ever since 1999, when I first read the book.

my name....well... many years ago, I started brewing Mead... when I had developed a formula that was fit for human consumption I decide I need labels on the bottles...labels need a name to make them look right.. since mead making is part art, part science and part magik (a lot of the history of mead was passed from master to pupil along with a Magik stick that would cause fermentation.. later it was shown that the stick had yeast stuck to it..)... MysticMead was born.. I have used that as my user name on several site where my primary user name has already been taken (kaelan).. mysticmead is also the name of my brewing website...
those that know me also call me Ric

My name was chosen for me during a particularly rowdy night at the Devil's Canyon Brewery, prior to actually signing up as a member of our illustrious site. Originally it was The Flame-Haired Bloodthirsty Celtic Amazon Goddess, but for some odd reason, the Bloodthirsty kept getting dropped, therefore The F-H.C.A.G. (I am grateful to w2f for remembering the Bloodthirsty portion of my name most of the time.)
Be well,

I've been wondering what one does to mend weasels. I guess now I know.

Since I am a Cajun "by the ring and by the back door", and Scottish by heritage, hence cajunscot.

Mine is a combination of two different things. I am a pagan, but specifically a discordian-a follower of Eris, goddess of chaos, discord, and confusion- therefore Erisian. Monkey stems from the theory that man is descended from apelike primates, often misinterpreted as "monkeys." I would have to say that the "monkey" portion of my name is therefore a three or more way jest. First at those who do not understand the concept of evolution and think that we really did come from the monkeys or apes that you see in the world today. Second at those who reject any possibility of the concept of evolution on the basis of blind faith. Lastly at those who hold the concept of evolution as one of their sacred cows and can't stand when someone substitutes monkey for primate.
Which is not to say I'm completely convinced of evolution, but I can't rule the theory out as there is a serious dearth of solid evidence.

Their dog looks EXACTLY like your avatar.
I had forgotten about Wamba ... I think I need to see a picture of that dog.

I know that Serenity has no weapons but she does pretty good with her engines. That and the fact that I figured Serenity needed to be mentioned.
