Both beautiful pieces of work. How about a true DIY post with step by step instructions for the rest of us?
Thanks,
Brian

I"ll take step by step pictures one the next one I build
and post them
Putting one of these together isn't that hard it just takes alot of pre-planning and lay out
Materials are readily available
I'll post pictures of what I used to attach the spike and hand grips when I get home
My work computer will not allow access to photobucket

Just a quick question regarding your rivets. I'm assuming you drilled your holes for the rivets, but did you just use standard pop rivets, or did you use special brass ones?

I didn't use any rivets,
the front is covered in brass tacks that I got from Crazy Crow
They come in different diameters and in a high or low dome
The heads are solid brass and the shanks are iron, beware of the brass plated ones as the plating will wear off and they will rust

I once built an arbor using these copper roves and rivets. Easy to work with.

Hey Joe
Ya went and did it again!
It's obvious that you put in a lot of time and care in the construction and planning of your targes...STOP!
You're making the ones I build look like knocked together hunks of crap :-)
But seriously.......you have constructed an object of beauty and I really admire your level of craftsmanship!
Currently I am constructing some targe "blanks" for my reenactment group and spent $80 on enough thick bull hide to construct 4 targes and still have plenty of skin left over.
You might want to call around the different leather stores in your area and ask them about any sales they might be having.
I also use whatever to pad the back, most recently it has been the stuffing from an old 19th century chair which is mainly straw and raw cotton fiber.
Keep up the good work!

Maybe we can meet up at some event or highland game
If your Jacobite group needs another Clansman I'll be available

Awesome Targe, Joe. Is it just for your wall, or will you take it to Rendezvous for show and tell?
