    And the winner is.....

Much as I would like to see a ship moved by a Borroughs Continnua device with Zeb at the helm, Jake on the verniers, Hilda in command advised by Lazarus, the Enterprise still has the edge. The indomitable Kirk in command supported by the intelect of Spock, augmented with a chief enginneer Scotty who could build a complete warp drive engine from an empty beer can, 2 sticks of gum, and 3 used staples. Beat that!

Not when Kirk has been distracted by Lapis Lazuli and Lorelei Lee (wearing what they usually wear at home on Tertius) on his viewscreen! Always know your enemy's weakness.

Seriously though, I'm surprised that with as much as Roddenberry stole Heinlein's stuff, he never thought to use some of the more fun ideas. Like the whole n-space navigational problems that crop up in several of Heinlein's novels.

I'd still back any ship with a Burroughs continua device. I mean c'mon, Gay Deceiver managed to elude the entire Galactic Patrol when they were in that universe. And don't underestimate Hilda. Any woman who can intimidate Lazarus Long is obviously a force to be reckoned with.
