Fascinating, Kevin! Glad you are here!

Mine began back in the days of the CB radio. You all remember CB's. That's what people like us did before there was this interweb thing.
Anyway, before I had my own radio, I was sitting with my friend who was talking on his CB. Someone on the radio asks who that is they hear in the background. My friend whispers to me "Don't use your real name." so I just said the first thing that popped into my head; "Major Mudd", which was a kids show in Boston in the 60's; which I really liked when I was a kid... living near Boston... in the 60's.
Anyway, it stayed with me when I finally got my own CB and my friend just shortened it to Mudd.
Since then, whenever I've needed an alias on the Net, I've aways used Mudd. (Not the character from the original Start Trek, as most people guess).
BTW, that's the real Major Mudd in my avatar.

I got my handle in the last century during the dot com/dot bomb days (daze?)
I ran with a small herd O' geeks. The elder of the tribe and the weakest programmer. A good troubleshooter/rubber meets the road man though. I could fix things and make them work when some of the stronger programmers could not, and when the best of us was short on time.
There is an old script floating around in the public domain called formmail.pl written in perl. Seems like I was a formmail modifier for a solid year. Then Handle Perldog suggested itself. Of course somebody had taken the AIM nic already.
My boot camp company number was 007. So Perldog007 it has been for about a decade now.

cool thread
Hi folks
My nick reflects my fascination with all things Japanese (e.g. History, food, language, religion, martial arts, etc). "Hachiman" is the Japanese Shinto god of war and peace, and his shrines are often found guarded by foxes (one of my favourite animals).
Coincidentally, Japanese mythology has a "fox spirit" called a 'Kitsune', which love the small, sweet rice-and-tofu rolls called "inari" rolls - also a big favourite of mine.
Anyway, so I needed a nick online when I started chatting on IRC... and Hachiman has been mine ever since.
Cheers
Hachiman
(but y'all can call me Ken, if'n you wish)
