Sciuropterus was one of the taxonomic classifications used for flying squirrels back in the 1700's.
It roughly translates to "Squirrel-wing", an apt description. I have an assortment of flying squirrels and chipmunks as pets, I really think they are fascinating animals. I do educational demos with my flying squirrels, they have even been on the local news.
