Wow! 12 days of sunshine...that IS amazing, because usually it's Rain-i-er.
Great pictures!

No kidding - I spent a week photographing there and never saw the entire peak. As the locals say "the mountain makes its own weather..."

Great pictures as hiking in a Kilt is a natural. As has been said earlier it is not nice to fool with Mother Nature.

Have they cleaned up a lot of the damage from last year?

Ok now I will have to hike on Rainier in my kilt.
Here is a picture of me a few years ago pre kilt era. This is my favorite spot to hike. The Wonderland Trail is 110 miles around the mountain at average elevation of 5000 ft. You can see the change in the glaciers pretty clear from then to the ones RetroRed took
Andrew no they dont have all the damage cleaned up from the storms last few years. The main entrance is fixed but the Carbon River area they might never fix so access is by foot or bike. They are claiming it is envormental impact considerations to limit access but it really is budget issueshttp://

Here's my picture of Mt. Rainier, taken from the Pacific Crest Trail between White Pass and Chinook Pass:
I was kilted, of course, but am not in the photo. I have climbed Mt. Rainier (unkilted) from Camp Muir, but did not have a camera with me.

I have hiked that section of Pacfic Crest Trail with the boy scouts, one of my best hikes ever. I think I have that same photo, one of the great lookout spots on the trail.

Thanks for posting your photos of Mt Rainier, Oldhiker & Andrew. How long ago were your pics taken? I find it startling how much the "permanent" snow pack & glaciers have receded, as your pics well illustrate.
I was impressed & a bit surprised by how much Mt Rainier stands out from its surroundings. There's other mountains nearby, but nothing even close in height. It's quite dramatic.
For a different perspective, I thought I'd add a couple more photos of Mt Rainier taken as our plane flew over it on our way back to Phoenix. With the reduced snow cap, I noticed a circular formation which I think is the volcanic crater.
.
Happiness? I'd settle for being less annoyed!!!
