Those are great jackets for this project. Just pay special attention to the sporran cut-away and how it intersects with that bottom button hole. Pin it in different positions until you find the one your eye likes best and keeps the proportions in balance.

The tweed will work well. Here's a link to an older thread. Follow the links in it for some ideas. Be sure to post pictures after the conversion.

Nice looking jackets, I especially like the grey herringbone one but what are those odd and uncomfortable looking things on your legs in the pictures?

I am about to start work on a kilt jacket conversion for my father-in law with a tweed jacket similar to the herringbone you posted. When I have begun the project, I will begin posting pictures and pitfalls of the process. Look for this in this forum.

I have to confess that at this time the only kilt that I have is an x-kilt (seen on another thread) that isn't quite up to standard for public showing.
My wife took the pictures and wasn't quite in the mood to wait for me to change.
