I'd go with green hose and red flashes. I would not get white gym socks.

Being familiar with the cloth in person, here is what I would reccomend:

Bottle green hose with red flashes
Lovat Blue hose with red flashes (there is a line of azure in this tartan that lovat blue hose would compliment really well).

Those would be my top two choices, but other color combinations would of course look good including ecru (which I don't normally reccomend), oatmeal/tan, black, or grey depending upon what color shirt you might choose to wear.

That's what I was thinking myself. Thanks for all the recommendations.

James, if you mean the Lewis hose: they are simply luxurious. I have 3 pairs, and my feet love them.

These are a little thicker than the average kilt hose (avoid tight shoes); but they look and feel great.

You've gotten some good choices here and Matt having the fabric in his very own clutches is in a good position to advise.

    BUT

David beat me to what is fast becoming a favorite of mine -- black hose, black shirt and red flashes (or matching tartan) would be what I'd wear with that one.

    TRUST him!
He HAS the material. He ALSO runs the Scottish Tartan Museum gift shop (the link recommended earlier).
So, he KNOWS the tones of BOTH (key here).

I would, personally, recommend splurging for the Lewis hose.
I LOVE mine. I don't have a big budget (read tiny), but have gotten 3 pair (bottle green, navy, and black). I plan to get a pair that matches the X Marks ancient blue and, perhaps, another green pair (I LOVE that color).
A Bottle green with red flashes looks good, and I use that combo for my Carolina kilt, most of the time. I also use the green ones for my MacNeil (see pict thread with turpin and myself at the church for the bottle green with black flashes) and will use if for my Gordon (all modern).

I wear a Drummond of Perth kilt, so does my brother. Mine looks great with cream and black hose, I think gray and oatmeal would look nice too. Possibly a light blue color or a dark green, My brothers kilt is a bit darker than mine, a more earthy maroon color, his looks nice with maroon colored hose too. Mines more bright red like the pic you posted.

    Not white. Ever. Ug.

Bottle green would be great. In fact (surprise, surprise) all of Matt's suggestions are great.

    but not white.
