I know that you've said that you prefer pleating to a stripe...I do, too...but in the case of the Campbell Ancient the sett doesn't look half bad. Have you laid it out pleated to the sett and considered it? I think that I look at it that way because it's a kind of a "low contrast" tartan...no one stripe really jumps out at you.

Here's my Ancient Grant Hunting kilt pleated to sett. My tartan is 16oz. Strome from Lochcarron.
Both of the pleating to stripe options you've picked will looked good. It really just depends on which colour you like more.
To me, the green option looks a bit less bright/vibrant, but it's such a pretty green. The blue option has those double black lines, which might look too busy, but that blue certainly pops.
You really can't make a bad choice here.

Hi Turpin
I'm likely stating the obvious here but for what its worth...
If you pleat to the "double stripe" the overall perception of color and tone will be more unified front to back. If you pleat to the single stripe in the green field - the kilt will have a more two tone effect with the back obviously lighter than the apron.
Personally, I prefer the more unified look but either way - I think its a nice tartan and its going to make a great looking kilt.

Here's Option 4 - It occurred to me when AA and PD talked about business.
How about pleating to the no-stripe in the blue?

I wouldn't pleat to no stripe. Like has been mentioned in other posts, it creates lawnchair butt. I also, think it's kinda weird because you're essentially removing the vertical component of the tartan, which to me kind of defeats the purpose of wearing tartan.
You could try to find some pictures of the Black Watch regiment to see which stripe their kilts are pleated. Same tartan, just different hues. If you have photo-editting software you could even lighten the tartan.

To my eye, -- Some tartans just look better pleated to sett.
This is one.

After seeing that picture; if I were to pleat it to stripe that'd be the way I'd go. I think the double black lines might make the pleats too dark (you're going to want to show off the blue and green) and perhaps too busy. Just another 2 cents from me.

Looks good in that picture. I think that it looks balanced from a color point of view. The two options that you proposed in the beginning look either too blue or too green and I think that was why it looked odd to me.
