    Kilted Patriots game

So last night I went to the Patriots home opener wearing a kilt, my first time going to a pro sporting event wearing one.

I was asked 'the question' 5 times, once from someone driving down rt1 shouting out their window, once from someone who was tailgating near me who took a good 15 mins to build up the courage to ask stating she was just really curious but embarased to ask. The other 3 were just random people at the stadium.

The second most asked question was "arent you cold?" it was around 45 and very very windy where I watched the game from. No, I wasnt cold except for my head and shoulders.

It was funny going into the stadum however. I walked up to the Men No Bags enterance, took my camera, cellphone, keys and wallet out of my sporran, held them in my hands and walked up where they were doing patdown searches. I held up my arms and the guy started to pat me down... got to the kilt ... couldnt figure out what to do, and stood there with a dumb look on his face for a minute before just waving me through.

Once inside the stadium my brother and I went to get to our usual standing spot (we always get standing room tickets, the stadium has increadible standing room views) and on the way up the ramps a person from 104.1 WBCN Patriots rock radio network stopped the two of us to interview us about the recent Patriots goingons, the video scandal, etc. Now I know for a fact that if I were not kilted at the time, that he'd probably have looked right past us, just another pair of fans in jersies walking up the ramp, instead I was able to get on the radio and voice my opinions and feelings because I was wearing a kilt, and thus got noticed.

All in all I had a great night, quite a few people gave me great compliments on my kilt, and being gutsy enough to wear one to an NFL game. Usualy when some random person shouted "Nice kilt !" I'd shout back "Yes it is, now where's yours?!" most people just professed that they didnt have the balls to wear one themselves, and a few of them had their wives prod them and mention something about how they'd look good in one.

Unfortunately the rest of the patriots games I have tickets for at Gillette stadium are in late December, and as warm as a kilt is, I dont know if I'm prepared to wear one in the usual ~15 degree weather around then, while standing around and not able to be active.

Good on ya! Thats great that you wore it to the game. I'm sure you saw my post about the Cardinals game a few weeks ago. It was a fun experience. You're absolutely right though about the radio guys. You would have just been another guy at the game without your kilt on, and he probably would have looked right past you.

I didn't get a chance to go to the cardinals game this weekend, but i would have worn my kilt again if i did. I'll be hopefully going in a few weeks, and i'll definitely be kilted. (even in the dead of winter it's only 60 degrees here, so i'll be plenty warm.)

Very nice story. For the cold weather, you'll just need to get a great kilt. Problem solved.

    Or a 16oz Tank!

What better reason do you need than to keep warm at those games!?

Hey man, we had a Kilt night last January when it was all of 0 degrees. It wasn't bad. Of course, we were inside most of the time. A Lady outside the Pub told us we were crazy.

    She was jealous.

Kilts and sports go hand in hand. Glad that you did that.

Keep your eyes peeled....there's a guy (my besotted brain forgets his name) who has a two color Pittsburgh Kilt in Patriots colors with a large "flying Elvis" on the apron.

And he's supposed to watch for the guy for what reason? I'd guess to berate him for his fashion sense (a flying Elvis? Really!).

Ummm, because he's a brother in a kilt at the same Patriots game and his kilt is in team colors. The "Flying Elvis" is the nickname for the logo the Patriots wear on the side of their helmets...the man in the other kilt has the same logo as the team wears on their helmets on his kilt.

Hopefully these pics will come through. His name is Phillip, maybe he's on this board?

Pleat shot shows that contrasting color underpleat that Jeff did so well.
