    "The Scotsman"

It never fails to bring a smile

    Dropkick Murphys - Spicy McHaggis
Not overly kilt related, unless you watch the video.

Well, if you look that song up online, its often mistakenly attributed to the Mollys (of which i'm on a rather big listening kick of). Although, Dave King has a rather noticable Irish accent, and Frank Mackey does not... hardly a new song, though.

The Scotsman, because it was sung to me at Paria Outpost because I was kilted, by a most lovely folk singer lady who did a great rendition of it from memory and acapella.

Barley Juice has a little ditty called "What's up Yours". That is my favorite. and any pipe music. "Whats" may not be "Scottish music", but it is still my favorite.

    Skye Boat Song
Here are a couple of lyrics for Highland Cathedral. The Kelly being probably the most popular.
    HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL -by Ben Kelly
    VERSE 1.
Land of our fathers, we will always be
Faithful and loyal to our own country.
In times of danger, we will set you free.
Lead you to glory and to victory.
    VERSE 2.
Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer.
In this Highland Cathedral, let our standards, bear.
Joining, together, with one dream to share.
God bless the people of this land so fair.
    CHORUS
Gone is the past, let us start anew.
Let this hope of peace, always remain.
Spirit of Scotia, be strong and true.
Then your children will smile again, again, again, again.
    VERSE 3.
Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring
In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King.
Whom, joy and liberty, to all, will bring.
Come; let your heart, with love and courage, sing.
    CHORUS
Lonely the exile, o'er distant seas,
The home of their birth, gone from their eyes.
Bring back their souls o'er the ocean breeze
To the land where their fathers lie.

    REPEAT LAST VERSE.

    Highland Cathedral - Moira Kerr
Land of the thistle and the rowan tree,
Scotland a nation, proud and free.
Under the Saltire, flying high for me,
    Leading us onward to victory.

Aiming high for all to see,
Together we stand, with faith in our land.
In times of trial and in victory,
    Scotland we will be there.

High in the mountains the die was cast,
By our forefathers in the past.
Vows of unity and peace were made,
In a Highland cathedral, where the pipers played.

Aiming high for all to see,
Together we stand, with faith in our land.
In times of trial and in victory,
    Scotland we will be there.

Land of the thistle and the rowan tree,
Scotland a nation, proud and free.
Under the Saltire, flying high for me,
    Leading us onward to victory.

I'll go with 'Donald where's yer troosers?'
    I've kinda reclaimed it.
My surname being Donald, I've had a lot of hassle for it and that that sung to me many, many times.
Not to mention the fact that I used to play for a team called the ducks...

Frank beat me to "What's up Yours", but my real favorite is one I've heard BarleyJuice do - "Tartan is the color of my true loves hair".

Can't beat it with a stick.

There's another - the title was something along the lines of "The Mexican Scotsman".

Those are the only kilt-related songs popping into my head right now.
The Mexican Scotsman is done by Enter The Haggis. A classic! My vote goes to BarleyJuice, however, for What's Up Yours.

It has to be "The Scotsman," for me.......it's what got me into kilting. I used to get asked to sing it at parties, (usually once inebriated, I complied,) and then my wife and my friends decided I should have a kilt to sing it in, (and they all threw blue ribbons at me when I opened it!) My sentimental favorite though is "Flower of Scotland.
    Cheers,
    David

Since no one has mentioned it (that I know of), I would have to say A Gordon for me!:

    A Gordon for Me
    I'm Geordie MacKay of the H. L. I.
I'm fond of the lassies and a drappie forbye,
One day when out walking I chanced to see,
A bonnie wee lass wi' a glint in her ee'
Says I to the lassie "Will you walk foe a while?
I'll buy you a bonnet and we'll do it in style,
My kilt is Mackenzie o' the H. L.I."
She look'd at me shyly and said wi' a sigh.

    Chorus
A Gordon for me, a Gordon for me,
If ye're no a Gordon ye're no use to me.
The Black Watch are braw, the Seaforths and a'
But the cocky wee Gordon's the pride o' them a'.

I courted that girl on the banks of the Dee,
I made up my mind she was fashioned for me,
Soon I was a' thinking how nice it would be
If she would consent to get married to me.
The day we were wed, the grass was so green,
The sun was as bright as the light in her 'een,
Now we've two bonnie lassies who sit on her knee,
While she sings the song she once sang to me.

    Chorus

    Meaning of unusual words:
    H.L.I.=Highland Light Infantry
    drappie=drop (of alcohol)
    forbye=also
